Fashion Lesson: Steampunk

The History

Steampunk was the sub-genre of science fiction during the 19th Century. It revolved mainly around steam-powered machinery that was arising in the Western Civilization. During this time period, steam power was popular and widely used in notable, scientific romance literary works--such as those by H. G. Wells, Mary Shelley, and Jules Verne. Steampunk can be found in modern day works from Philip Pullman and China Mieville.

The steampunk genre featured elements of fantasy, horror, and historical fiction that made it a hybrid genre, or cross-genre. Steampunk literature involved futuristic inventions, fictional machines, and futuristic architectural style and art, creating a post-apocalyptic future.

Steampunk Fashion

Steampunk fashion was inspired by the Victorian Era. The use of gowns, petticoats, corsets, vests, suits, top hats, and military garments are typically seen in this style. Technological pieces--goggles, ray guns, timepieces, machinery--are used to accent these garments. Modern pieces like cell phones and music players are modified to look Victorian-made.

Get the Look

Get the steampunk look by pairing a blouse with a high-low skirt and combat boots. Go for a corset, waist belt if you're uncomfortable with wearing a corset. Stick to gold and leather pieces of jewelry, like this Steampunk-inspired key necklace, cutout cuff, leather cuff with chevron pieces, and studded cuff. Sport an industrial-inspired cross bag and circle glasses to complete the look.

Have fun with this wild style!

Polyvore's Daily Find: Sessùn capri

Hey lovely dolls! I'm here to present a new segment: Polyvore's Daily Finds. I'll post outfit sets inspired by Polyvore's trends and looks, as well as give advice on how and where to wear these looks! Here's the first one: Sessùn Cropped Trousers in Navy Blue.

The Daily Find: Sessun Trousers

Get the Look

Lottie Dot

Trousers are a perfect way to look business chic, so take a pair of polka-dot trousers and pair them with a ruffle blouse, color-block strappy heels, and a satchel. Go bold with a statement necklace and red lipstick.

A Little Contrast

Be bold and daring when you pair cropped, dotted pants with a bright red coat. For the season of fall and transition into winter, go for a pair of brown Oxford heels, brown, silk scarf, and a knitted beanie.

InCharge

Command attention when you pair dotted trousers with a pair of black, lace-up combat boots, and a yellow peplum top with textured neckline. Stick with gold accent pieces, like a stack of bracelets, rings, and sunglasses, to give off that "InCharge" vibe, and op for a pair of dangling earrings and a pendant necklace.

That's all for now, loves!

Ways to Wear it: Cutouts

School is in session, and there's no doubt students will be showing off their new studs! One trend that's popular amongst the crowd are cutouts. Cutouts allow you to show off that summer tan and to flirt with that cutie from across the classroom. However, cutouts can possess wardrobe malfunctions, so be sure to have a cover up underneath.

Show a little more...

Show a little skin with a cutout tank with cargo skinnies and black combat boots. Pair up this tough girl look with gold, accent jewelry, such as a bangle set, cross ring, and cuff earrings (one of my fave styles!) Remember to layer with a tank top underneath to keep from giving away too much.

Wrapped around me body

A cutout, bodycon dress looks sleek and sexy when paired with over-the-knee crochet socks and retro sunglasses. But keep it covered up with a faux leather shoulder shawl. Buckle Creepers add to the Taylor Momsen look, as well as a faux leather backpack.

 Slight Work

Oxfords are perfect for a business causal look. So take a pair of cutout Oxfords and match them with a sleeveless blouse, cropped trousers, and a boyfriend blazer. Accent the look with a stack of rings and pearl earrings.

Peekaboo Doll

Be the sweet doll that you are when you pair a cutout sweater with a button skater skirt in taupe. Finish the look with a watch and bracelet set, sunglasses, and matching Mary Jane pumps with a bow on the side. Carry around your essentials with a tote bag and a pretty personality.

That's it for now loves! Have fun shopping ;D

How My Summer Went

Hey dolls! My apologies for not keeping you updated these pass couple of weeks...or more like for a month. As summer for me is drawing to a close, I've grown more anxious for school and more lazy. However, I have kept myself busy with checking up on friends on Facebook and Instagram, I've worked on a few pieces, though they're not nearly close to being completed, I've watched movies perhaps every night, as well as spent the week watching season one and two of Teen Wolf (now I'm starting on season three!!) I have also spend birthdays with family members, took a trip to Savannah for some much needed R&R, and of course, shopped for new school clothes.

One thing I have also done was wore my hair natural all summer long. I plan to get it done by the end of this month. I've been too lazy to do it myself, and it's a bit hot to be blowing drying my hair. And while school may have started for many, I'm still waiting (precisely one month) for my start.

I've had a few ups and downs, like trying to figure out how to pay for school and getting all my information sent in. I've taken a break from weeks of nonstop writing essays for scholarships and I shall pick that back up after this weekend. Not to mention I've slacked on my dance lessons and workout sessions, so I need to restart that process before I injure myself from common tasks, like walking.

But overall, this summer has been a blast! I guess having the satisfaction of graduating and never having to go back to high school again is a result to this wondrous summer. But I'm ready to get back working and writing. I'm excited to see what is to come these last couple of months before we enter the new year. Hope everyone is living and loving life!

Ciao for now!
